White & Newton were based in Portsmouth, and were a leading British furniture manufacturer during the 1950s-70s. Under the design direction of Arthur Edwards, the company became known for its modernist approach, producing clean, functional forms in teak and other timbers. Their work often featured innovative detailing, such as reeded drawer fronts, sculptural handles, and finely proportioned legs, reflecting the optimism of post-war British design.
White & Newton’s pieces were sold widely across the UK, offering stylish, affordable modern furniture for a new generation of homes. Today, their designs are recognised for their craftsmanship and understated elegance, standing as representative examples of mid-century British design.
