bespoke upholstery

At A Fold of Chairs, all our upholstery is done in-house, combining traditional techniques with a deep respect for 20th-century design. Every piece that comes into the workshop is treated with care and attention, whether it’s a Finn Juhl Japan sofa, a Grete Jalk armchair, or something that’s simply been loved for years and deserves to be used again.

Our aim is always to honour the original craftsmanship while giving each piece new life. From selecting sustainable fabrics that sit beautifully against a teak or rosewood frame, to the hand-stitched finishing details that make it feel complete, everything is considered and made to last.

The result is furniture that feels renewed but true to its origins,  ready to continue its story for decades to come.

How the process works

1 | Enquiry
Complete our contact form with as much detail as possible about your requirements. Please include a photograph of your piece. If you wish to share additional images, email them to hello@afoldofchairs.com.

2 | Initial Response
We’ll be in touch to talk through what you’d like done and any details we need to understand the scope of the work.

3 | Quotation
Once we’ve assessed your piece, we’ll send a tailored quotation based on the materials and level of restoration required.

4 | Collection
Once the quote is approved and deposit has been paid, you can drop off your piece or we will arrange for it to be collected at a convenient time.

5 | Crafting
Your piece is then restored in our St Albans workshop. We’ll share updates as it progresses so you can see the care that goes into every stage.

6 | Completion & Payment
On completion, your restored piece can be picked up in store or we can arrange delivery to you. Remaining balance is taken once the item is collected.
