This original Fritz Hansen Swan Chair has been carefully restored and reupholstered in-house, using a rich navy felt that highlights the chair’s flowing lines. The entire chair is hand slip-stitched so the fabric adheres to the curves and ensuring the integrity of Jacobsen’s original design remains intact.

The Swan Chair is a true icon of mid-century design. Arne Jacobsen was one of the most influential figures in 20th-century design, celebrated for his ability to unite architecture, furniture, and function in a singular modernist vision. Trained as both an architect and designer, Jacobsen’s work helped shape what we now recognise as Danish modern design, clean-lined, human-centred, and technically forward thinking.
The Swan Chair was created in 1958 as part of Jacobsen’s complete design for the SAS Royal Hotel in Copenhagen. Commissioned to design every detail of the building, interiors, lighting, furniture, Jacobsen conceived the Swan Chair specifically for the hotel’s lounge areas. With its curved, sculptural form and swivel base, the chair was a radical departure from the angular furniture of the time. Its seamless, organic silhouette was made possible by pioneering use of moulded foam and a reinforced shell, allowing for a shape that was both visually light and physically comfortable.
