Achille Castiglioni (1918–2002) was a legendary Italian industrial designer known for his playful yet functional approach to design. A key figure in 20th-century design, he co-founded the Castiglioni studio with his brothers, Livio and Pier Giacomo, creating iconic works in lighting, furniture, and everyday objects. Castiglioni’s designs often used minimal materials and innovative techniques to achieve elegant solutions.
One of his celebrated creations is the Stylos Floor Lamp (1984), designed for Flos. The lamp features a sleek cylindrical shape in white polycarbonate, with two light sources, one at the top and one near the base, that provide versatile ambient and direct lighting. The Stylos exemplifies Castiglioni's minimalist aesthetic and clever use of modern materials, making it a timeless design classic.
