Boda Nova “Oval” Sugar Shaker

Designed by Mikael Björnstjerna, Sweden, 1971*

A beautifully streamlined sugar dispenser from Boda Nova’s Oval collection, designed in 1971 by the company’s founder, Mikael Björnstjerna. Made from heavy polished 18/8 stainless steel.

The shaker’s soft oval profile feels modern even today, with perfectly placed perforations and a pleasing weight in the hand. This example retains its original steel screw stopper -later versions were produced with plastic. Stamped Boda Nova Stainless to the base, with the original flag mark on the side.

A perfect addition to a coffee corner or breakfast table, and a thoughtful gift for anyone who appreciates the precision and purity of Swedish design.

About the Designer - Mikael Björnstjerna

Mikael Björnstjerna (b. 1930) was a Swedish industrial designer and the founder of Boda Nova, the company that helped define a new, modernist approach to everyday tableware in the 1960s and 70s. His work focused on refined simplicity, high quality materials, and pieces that were both functional and sculptural.

Björnstjerna collaborated closely with leading Scandinavian designers of the period and pushed Boda Nova toward a clean, minimal aesthetic that became synonymous with contemporary Swedish design. His Oval collection, introduced in 1971, exemplifies his philosophy: quiet, elegant forms made with precision and integrity.
