In 1948 Danish designer and manufacturer Poul Cadovius introduced the Royal System, a wall mounted shelving system that fundamentally rethought the way furniture could occupy a room. Rather than placing heavy cabinets on the floor, Cadovius proposed moving storage onto the wall, freeing space, creating flexibility, and allowing the composition to be continually rearranged.

The system was produced in Denmark by Cado, the company Cadovius founded in 1960. It quickly became one of the most influential modular storage systems of the twentieth century and is now regarded as a classic of Scandinavian modern design.

Unlike fixed shelving units, the Royal System is entirely modular. Cabinets, desks and shelves can be repositioned along the vertical rails, allowing the arrangement to adapt to changing needs, from storage and display to workspace or bar cabinet.

This particular example is manufactured n teak, the most sought after timber used for the system, prized for its warmth and durability. It includes a varied combination of cabinets and shelving, allowing it to function as both a practical storage solution and an architectural feature within a room.

The set includes a desk cabinet, a cocktail cabinet with mirrored interior, multiple sliding door storage cabinets, and a generous selection of shelves and rails, giving considerable flexibility in how the system can be configured.

As with all Royal System installations, the composition can be arranged in many different ways depending on the wall space available.
