Poole 'Delphis' pottery pin tray
18 cm length x 10cm width,
Poole studio pottery pin tray in the "Delphis" pattern. Shape number 361, The mark to the base was used between 76-77. The Poole backstamp also dates it to between 1966-80. Each piece of Delphis ware is unique, no patterns are repeated.

Michael Cardew (1901-1983) was a pupil of prolific potter Bernard Leach. He went on to run Winchcombe pottery in Gloucestershire where he produced mainly domestic ware. During the 1930s he moved to Wenford Bridge Pottery in Cornwall where he began to experiment with new ceramic shapes and decorations. A retrospective exhibition was mounted at the crafts council in 1976 and he was awarded the OBE for contribution to British ceramics the same year. He has published many significant books on the art of pottery.
