A beautifully crafted Danish oval dining table designed by Kurt Østervig for Jason Møbler, featuring an elegant drop-leaf design with integral piano hinges. The precision of the hinge work allows the leaves to fold seamlessly, while the legs at either end rotate outward, enabling the table ends to drop cleanly in a vertical line, transforming it from a generous dining table to a more compact footprint with ease.

Made from richly grained teak, the table rests on sculptural, organically shaped supports typical of Østervig’s approach: soft geometry, balanced proportions, and an emphasis on both function and form. This is a classic example of Danish modernism, refined and versatile, ideal for dining rooms, open-plan kitchens, or multi-use living spaces.

About the Designer

Kurt Østervig (1912–1986) was a Danish furniture designer known for his refined, understated approach to modern design. Trained as a shipbuilder before studying furniture design at the Danish School of Arts and Crafts in Copenhagen, Østervig developed a deep understanding of structure, balance and craftsmanship.

He worked closely with leading Danish manufacturers including Jason Møbler and Brande Møbelfabrik, producing dining tables, desks, cabinets and seating throughout the 1950s and 1960s. His designs are characterised by elegant proportions, intelligent construction and sculptural yet restrained detailing, never decorative for its own sake.

Condition
Excellent vintage condition with minimal signs of wear. Beautiful patina to the teak. Mechanisms and hinges work smoothly.
