Nuutajärvi Glass Bird – Willow Grouse by Oiva Toikka
Finland, 1980s–1990s
A beautifully understated Willow Grouse, designed by Oiva Toikka for the Nuutajärvi glassworks. This model features a speckled white body with soft brown and grey tones, evoking the winter plumage of the arctic bird it’s named after.
Mouth-blown at Nuutajärvi, Finland’s oldest glassworks, each bird from the “Birds by Toikka” series is individually shaped and coloured, making every piece a one-off. This example retains its original Nuutajärvi factory label and is in excellent condition.
Toikka’s birds are known for their sculptural form, rich glasswork, and a deep sense of character. His work defied the strict minimalism of Finnish modernism, favouring expressive form and quiet charm.
Retains original Nuutajärvi label. Signed to underside.
Excellent condition.
