New CH26 chair by Hans Wegner for Carl Hansen in soap treated oak and paperchord (Denmark)

Though designed in 1950, Hans J. Wegner's CH26 chair was never produced in his lifetime, and no original prototypes were made—only hand-drawn sketches remained. The CH26 shares a close design lineage with the CH22, seen in the graceful curves of its armrests and the sweeping elegance of the support structure. But with the CH26, Wegner envisioned a dining or desk chair, carefully refining its proportions to align with table heights for optimal comfort and stability.

Today, the CH26 has finally been realised to Wegner’s exacting specifications, brought to life with precision craftsmanship true to his original sketches. The only modification is a subtle increase of two centimetres in height, an adjustment to accommodate the higher tables and taller builds of today. This timeless design now merges Wegner’s midcentury vision with modern functionality, offering both style and ergonomic comfort for today’s homes.
