Ernest Gimson, born in Leicester in 1864, trained as an architect but soon embraced cabinetmaking, influenced by the ideals of the Arts and Crafts movement. He worked alongside figures like William Morris, contributing to notable buildings. Ernest Barnsley, born in Birmingham in 1863, also trained as an architect but joined Gimson in a shared passion for craftsmanship. Specialising in joinery, the two formed a partnership in the 1890s, producing furniture, interiors, and public works with a focus on quality materials and traditional techniques. Their work, celebrated for its elegant simplicity, left a lasting mark on design.
