Tamara Aladin for Riihimäen Lasi, Emerald Glass Vase
Dimensions: 9.5 cm (diameter) × 20 cm (height)
A sculptural mid-century vase designed by Tamara Aladin for Riihimäen Lasi, Finland’s celebrated glassworks known for its bold forms and saturated colour. This piece is blown in a rich emerald green, with Aladin’s characteristic stacked silhouette: a wide cylindrical top balanced over two softly rounded waists, tapering into a weighted clear-glass base.
The profile is wonderfully architectural - almost like a column - making it as striking empty as it is with a single stem. The transparency and thickness of the glass catch the light beautifully, creating tonal variations through the curves.
Condition
Very good vintage condition with light signs of age. No cracks or clouding.
A beautiful, solid, mid-century Finnish vase - graphic, functional and full of colour. Perfect as a standalone object or part of a Scandinavian glass collection.
Born in Helsinki, Tamara Aladin trained in fashion and textile design before joining Riihimäen Lasi in 1959. Her background in pattern and silhouette shaped her approach to glass: bold upper masses, clean lines, and strong geometric transitions. She designed over 150 pieces for the glassworks during her seventeen year tenure and became one of the factory’s most influential designers of the 1960s and 70s.
Aladin’s work is instantly recognisable for its sculptural clarity, pieces that feel modern yet have the softness and warmth of Nordic craft. The “Safari” series is one of her most enduring designs, defined by its architectural stacked form and textured cylindrical body.
Riihimäen Lasi (also known as Riihimäki Glassworks) was one of Finland’s major producers of art glass, celebrated for its innovation and the strength of its design studio. Today, Aladin’s work is widely collected, valued for its craftsmanship, colour, and unmistakably Finnish sensibility.
