A well considered multifunctional telephone seat produced by Chippy Heath Furniture Ltd of High Wycombe, a town long associated with British furniture making and post-war modern production.

The design reflects a moment in the late twentieth century when domestic furniture began responding to changing technologies and patterns of living. Combining seating, storage and table surface within a single compact form, pieces such as this were intended for hallways or living spaces, providing a practical place for telephone use while maintaining a clean architectural presence.

A chromed steel frame supports a smoked glass tabletop positioned above an integrated magazine rack, while the opposing side incorporates a teak storage compartment concealed beneath a removable seat pad. The contrast between warm timber, reflective chrome and glass gives the piece a distinctly modernist character typical of British interiors of the period.

The removable seat has been newly reupholstered in our workshop using a 100% wool fabric by Danish Art Weaving, chosen for its texture, durability and reference to Scandinavian textile traditions. The upholstery complements the materials of the original design while bringing the piece comfortably into contemporary use.

Condition
Very good vintage condition. Chrome frame and glass top showing light age-related wear. Seat newly upholstered. Structurally sound throughout.
