Teak armchair by Illum Wikkelsø for Niels Eilersen model No.4 'Capella', Denmark

Matching 3 seater sofa available

We have restored the beautiful frame of this easy chair by Illum Wikkelsø,  the teak retains a rich colour. The cushions are new and fire retardant, we have upholstered them in powder blue fabric by Camira.

In the late 1950s, as a profit from cutting, large quantities of cheap teak wood (in the size 1x2x24 inches) came onto the world market. Wikkelsø and Eilersen used these to make the Capella range of furniture.  For example. the armrests are made in the same way as a cricket bat; two pieces are glued to the top of the armpit. The chair is part of a modular program where chairs could be assembled into sofas of infinite length.
