Cari Zalloni (Austrian 1937-2012) for Steuler Keramik - Vase, Shape 236/25
West Germany, c.1970s
Height: 25cm

A sculptural West German vase designed by Cari Zalloni for Steuler Keramik, model 236/25. Zalloni is best known today for founding CAZAL and transforming eyewear design in the 1980s, but before that he trained as an industrial designer in Vienna and worked across furniture, interiors and ceramics. His ceramic work for Steuler in the late 1960s and early 1970s is now highly collected for its architectural forms, strong lines and expressive glazes.

This piece shows those signatures clearly: a double-gourd silhouette, flared neck and twin looped handles that create movement and symmetry. The glaze is a deep cobalt blue shading into black, a classic Steuler colourway with beautiful saturated tone and high-gloss variation.

A distinctive example of Zalloni’s earlier design language, and a strong, sculptural addition to any mid-century collection.
