Rosewood Extending Dining Table by Henry Rosengren Hansen for Brande Møbelindustri
Denmark, 1960s

A beautifully engineered extending dining table designed by Henry Rosengren Hansen for Brande Møbelindustri, executed in richly figured rosewood. Hansen’s work is widely recognised for combining refined Danish proportions with highly resolved construction, and this table is an excellent example of that approach.

At first glance the design appears restrained, a clean circular form supported by a solid central base, but the quality becomes most apparent in the engineering. The extension mechanism and integrated storage system for the two additional leaves are among the best we have encountered. The leaves store neatly beneath the table, allowing it to transition effortlessly from an intimate round dining table to a larger setting without the need for separate storage.

During preparation and storage, the table was fully dismantled, revealing the intelligence of its construction. Precision metal fastening systems secure the structure without placing stress on the timber itsel, an often overlooked detail, yet one that plays a significant role in why well made Danish furniture continues to function perfectly decades later. The table reassembles with exceptional rigidity and stability.

The Brazilian rosewood top displays beautiful natural grain throughout. The surface remains in excellent overall condition; however, at each end section areas of the original lacquer have lightly worn. This is subtle and does not detract from everyday use, but we prefer to highlight it transparently. We would recommend viewing the table in person at the shop where possible.

Should you prefer, we can remove the existing lacquer and apply a hardwearing Danish oil finish. This would result in a softer, less reflective surface while providing excellent long term protection for the timber.

Condition
Very good vintage condition overall. Structurally excellent. Minor lacquer wear to outer sections of the top as described. Extension mechanism operating smoothly.
