Whitefriars was a leading name in British art glass throughout the mid-20th century, known for its bold textures, vibrant colours and distinctive modern forms. Under the creative direction of Geoffrey Baxter, the company developed a unique design language that combined sculptural surfaces with rich, jewel-like tones, pieces that feel as contemporary today as they did in the 1960s.

This hand-blown vase in Emerald belongs to the early 'Knobbly' series—introduced in the late 1950s and produced into the early 1960s. Each vase in the range was individually shaped by hand, giving every piece its own organic rhythm and character. Pattern number 9608.

The vivid green glass is full of depth and light play, while the textured surface invites close inspection. A classic example of British studio glass at its most expressive.
