1960s Mahogany & Granite Wall Sculpture

A beautifully constructed 1960s wall sculpture combining warm, richly grained mahogany with a striking piece of pink granite.

The contrast between the two materials is what makes it so good - the depth and warmth of the dark wood against the mottled pink, grey and charcoal tones of the stone. The granite has a wonderful natural texture which gives the piece an almost architectural quality.

We particularly love the construction. A slim section of wood runs from top to bottom behind the granite, holding it slightly proud of the main panel. It is such a simple detail, but gives the whole piece a sense of depth and makes the stone appear almost suspended within the composition.

The geometric form feels very much of its period, but the combination of natural materials keeps it understated rather than decorative.

A brass fixing is neatly set into the back for hanging.
