'4044' West German Organic Shaped Striped Ceramic Vase by Zell Schmider (1960s) Germany
Organic Ceramic Vase by Zell Schmid
West Germany, c.1960s
An organically shaped ceramic vase by renowned West German pottery manufacturer Zell Schmid, produced during the 1960s. The sculptural form features a softly pinched opening and a beautifully balanced silhouette, decorated with a richly textured lava glaze in warm brown surrounding hand-painted vertical bands of ochre, turquoise, white and black. The combination of earthy glazes and bold colour reflects the expressive experimentation that made West German ceramics of this period so distinctive.
Founded in Zell am Harmersbach in the Black Forest, Zell Schmid became one of West Germany’s most respected pottery manufacturers during the post-war years. The company was celebrated for producing decorative stoneware that combined innovative glazing techniques with sculptural forms, helping to establish the international reputation of German studio ceramics throughout the 1950s, 60s and 70s.
Whether displayed as a standalone object or filled with seasonal stems, this vase brings warmth, texture and character to a shelf, sideboard or dining table.
