"The Kiss" Handworked Carrera Marble sculpture by Ismond Rosen (1973)
"The Kiss" Handworked Carrera Marble sculpture by Ismond Rosen (1973)
Beautifully hand sculpted carerra marble sculpture depicting 2 figures embracing on cuboid wooden base.
54cm high including base
Rosen said the sculpture 'was conceived as complete in an instant – the element of wholeness of image and inner vision is contained in its simple line and curves. The two heads relate above and fuse below in a manner expressive of human loving, both in its earliest mother/child relationship and in adult love'
This sculpture was previously owned by the Royal Society of Medicine.
Ismond Rosen (1924-1996) was a British artist, sculptor, and psychoanalyst known for his unique blend of artistic expression and psychological insight. Trained as a medical doctor before specialising in psychoanalysis, Rosen explored themes of human emotion, sexuality, and the subconscious in his work. His sculptures, often figurative and expressive, reflect his deep understanding of the human psyche and his interest in the intersection of art and mental health.
Rosen's contributions extended beyond his art, as he wrote extensively on psychoanalysis, aiming to deepen public understanding of psychology. His dual career left a lasting impact on both fields, bridging art and psychoanalytic thought. He currently has work available to view at the Royal Academy of Arts in London.
