Eddie Hopkins was a master potter who spent over 45 years at Winchcombe Pottery, where he became the principal production thrower. His skill, dedication, and good humour left a lasting impact on the pottery community. Eddie produced an extraordinary volume of work - throwing and handling hundreds of pots each week, from mugs and jugs to casseroles and bread crocks. His jugs, in particular, were known for their robust and generous forms, reflecting the warmth of the man himself.
While he primarily focused on functional pottery, Eddie occasionally had the chance to create larger pieces, stepping into a role usually reserved for Ray Finch. He worked tirelessly, often listening to cricket matches on an old tube radio while keeping up a lively conversation with those around him.
Eddie retired in 2006, leaving behind a legacy of craftmanship and camaraderie. He passed away two years later after a tragic incident during severe floods. His influence endures through the countless pots he made and the many lives he had touched.
