This sideboard needs some restoration work before it is sold. Please contact us if you would like to view it.
A large mid-century teak sideboard produced by G-Plan in England during the 1960s. The piece follows the clean, architectural language that defined G-Plan’s best work of the period, combining generous storage with simple, carefully balanced proportions.
The layout is particularly practical. A bank of five drawers sits to the left, the upper drawer traditionally fitted for cutlery, while two double door cupboards provide additional concealed storage. Inside the cupboards are shelves allowing the interior to be used for tableware, glassware or records. The square teak handles and long horizontal lines emphasise the sideboard’s strong, low profile.
Raised on elegant tapered legs, the design has a lightness that prevents a piece of this scale from feeling heavy in a room. The teak grain is warm and well figured, giving the front a subtle rhythm across the drawer fronts and cabinet doors.
Pieces of this size are increasingly difficult to find and work particularly well in larger dining rooms or open-plan living spaces where both storage and surface area are useful.

About G-Plan
G-Plan was founded in 1953 by E. Gomme Ltd in High Wycombe, Buckinghamshire. At a time when British furniture was still largely traditional, G-Plan introduced a coordinated range of modern pieces designed to be bought as complete room sets. The approach was highly successful and helped bring contemporary design into post-war British homes.
During the late 1950s and 1960s the company worked with several influential designers including Ib Kofod-Larsen, whose Danish Range became one of G-Plan’s most celebrated collections. Using high quality teak and carefully considered proportions, G-Plan furniture combined Scandinavian influence with British manufacturing, and today remains one of the most recognisable names in midcentury design.
Images are intended to represent the colour, grain and overall condition of the piece as accurately as possible.
