Nils Strinning for String Shelving - Teak and White Metal Modular Wall System/Bookcase (1960s) Sweden
A mid-century single-bay wall system designed by Nils Strinning for String, combining teak shelving with crisp white metal laddered uprights. This minimalist system comprises of 2 moveable teak shelves and a sliding-door cupboard, allowing for flexible use as a bookcase, display unit, or storage system.
The white steel supports have been newly sprayed and the wood has been cleaned and oiled.
There are some knocks to the wood but the system is in overall good vintage condition with minor signs of age. Structurally sound. All elements are original and functioning. The cupboard doors slide smoothly.
Nils Strinning (1917–2006) was a Swedish architect and designer best known for the String shelving system, first developed in 1949. Celebrated for its adaptability and visual simplicity, String shelving became a staple of postwar Scandinavian homes. Strinning’s work exemplified functional modernism, flat-packable, lightweight, and beautifully resolved.
