Danish Teak Serving Tray by Digsmed, Denmark, 1960s
Danish Teak Serving Tray by Digsmed, Denmark, 1960s
A beautifully made Danish serving tray produced by Digsmed in Denmark during the 1960s. Crafted from solid teak, the tray demonstrates the restrained elegance that characterises much Scandinavian tableware of the period. The elongated oval form is gently tapered, with integrated cut-out handles at each end and two slender raised rails running along the sides. These subtle rails help stabilise glasses or crockery when carrying, while also adding a pleasing sculptural line to the design.
The teak has a warm, even tone with attractive grain patterns that have developed a soft patina over time. Pieces such as this were designed to move easily between kitchen and living room, reflecting the relaxed, informal entertaining culture that became popular in Scandinavia during the mid-twentieth century.
Stamped to the underside “Digsmed Denmark”, confirming its Danish manufacture.
Elegant yet practical, it works equally well for serving drinks, breakfast, or simply as a decorative object on a coffee table or sideboard.

Digsmed was a Danish manufacturer active during the mid-twentieth century, known for producing high-quality teak kitchenware and serving pieces. Working during the height of Scandinavian modernism, the company specialised in objects that combined careful craftsmanship with simple, functional design. Their trays, cutting boards and serving items were widely exported and became popular across Europe and North America during the 1950s and 1960s. Using richly grained teak and restrained forms, Digsmed’s products embodied the Danish design philosophy that everyday domestic objects should be both useful and beautifully made. Today their pieces remain sought after as examples of well-crafted mid-century tableware that reflects the understated elegance of Danish modern design.
