Small Green 'Kastehelmi' littala Votive Candle Holder, Finland

Kastehelmi, designed by Oiva Toikka in 1964 for Iittala, is one of Finland’s most recognisable glass designs. The name means dew drop, and the surface pattern was inspired by the tiny beads of moisture that collect on grass at sunrise. Toikka developed the texture not only for its beauty, but also to hide mould marks on pressed glass - a practical solution that became an enduring design signature.

Oiva Toikka (1931–2019) was one of Finland’s most inventive glass designers, known for his imaginative approach and his ability to push the technical possibilities of glass. Trained originally in ceramics, he brought a sculptural, playful sensibility to his work and created some of Iittala’s most iconic pieces.

The Kastehelmi votive catches and reflects light through its ringed droplets, making it one of the most atmospheric ways to add soft, warm light to a room.
