Per Lutken ‘Offset Scoop’ Bowl for Holmegaard

Few designers shaped the identity of Scandinavian glass as profoundly as Per Lütken (1916–1998). Joining Holmegaard in 1942, he remained with the Danish glassworks for more than fifty years, designing over 3,000 pieces and becoming one of the most influential figures in twentieth century glass design. His work is celebrated for its organic forms, exceptional understanding of molten glass and ability to create objects that feel both sculptural and effortlessly functional.

Founded in 1825, Holmegaard is Denmark’s oldest and most prestigious glass manufacturer. Throughout the post-war period it collaborated with some of the country’s leading designers, helping establish Danish glass as one of the defining exports of Scandinavian Modern design.

This striking smoked glass bowl is one of Lütken’s most recognisable designs. Often referred to as the ‘Offset Scoop’ bowl, its asymmetrical form appears to have been gently pushed from one side while the glass was still molten, creating a beautifully fluid silhouette that changes dramatically depending on the angle from which it is viewed. The rich smoked glass enhances the sculptural quality of the piece, catching and reflecting light with remarkable subtlety.
