PK61 Coffee Table by Poul Kjærholm for Fritz Hansen
Original midcentury design
Dimensions: 100 × 100 × 35 cm
Top: Tempered glass (very sturdy)

Designed by Poul Kjærholm in 1955, the PK61 is one of the most iconic and refined coffee tables of the 20th century. Its design is rooted in Kjærholm’s belief that steel is a material of equal artistic merit to wood - resulting in a frame defined by precision, clarity, and an architectural lightness.

About Poul Kjærholm
Poul Kjærholm (1929–1980) was a Danish designer celebrated for his calm, architectural furniture forms and his exceptional handling of steel. After training as a cabinetmaker, he studied at the Danish School of Arts and Crafts and later became a professor at the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts. His collaboration with Fritz Hansen and later E. Kold Christensen produced some of the most important pieces of Scandinavian modernism, including the PK22, PK80, and the PK61.

This example features the classic four-piece steel base with visible joints, paired with its original tempered glass top. The contrast between the weight of the materials and the pared-back form is exactly what makes Kjærholm’s work so enduring.

There is a small internal chip to one corner of the glass (not sharp, and clearly shown in the photographs). It doesn’t detract from the overall look of the table, but if preferred, we can obtain a quote for a new piece of tempered glass.

A timeless, collectible design - effortlessly minimal, beautifully engineered, and a hallmark of Kjærholm’s approach to modernism.
