Priced as a set
A rare pair of ‘Kyoto’ dining chairs designed by French-Hungarian designer Mathieu Matégot in the 1950s. Elegant and sculptural, the chairs feature Matégot’s distinctive combination of hand-welded steel rod frames and perforated metal panels, forming delicately curved seats and backs with an architectural lightness.
About the Designer
Mathieu Matégot (1910–2001) was a pioneering designer of postwar French modernism. After working in set design and fashion, he turned to furniture and developed a unique style that blended industrial materials with organic forms. His work with Rigitulle, which he patented, defined much of his design output and is now widely collected and exhibited internationally.
Condition
Excellent vintage condition. The frames are structurally sound with a light, even patina. Perforated panels are intact.
