1970s Louis Poulsen "Panthella" Floor Lamp
1970s Louis Poulsen "Panthella" Floor Lamp
Louis Poulsen ‘Panthella’ Floor Lamp by Verner Panton
Designed by Verner Panton for Louis Poulsen in 1971, the Panthella is one of the defining lighting designs of the twentieth century. Panton wanted to create a lamp where both the base and the shade acted as a reflector, producing a soft, glare-free light while giving the impression that the entire form glows.
Its organic silhouette perfectly captures Panton’s optimistic approach to design. Unlike many of his more experimental interiors, the Panthella has proved remarkably timeless, sitting just as comfortably in contemporary homes today as it did when it was first introduced over fifty years ago.
This original 1970s can be dates by the round on/off button on the base which was discontinued on later example. It is finished in white and retains the elegant proportions that have made the design an enduring classic. It provides a beautifully diffused, ambient light, making it ideal beside a reading chair, in a living room or as a sculptural statement in a bedroom.
