Artemide Sintesi Table Lamp
Designed by Ernesto Gismondi, Italy, circa 1990

This Sintesi table lamp was designed by Ernesto Gismondi for Artemide and produced in Italy around 1990. The design is typical of Artemide’s approach during the late twentieth century: engineering-led, functional and deliberately expressive in its mechanics.

The lamp is constructed from black-painted metal with a striking articulated frame that allows the light source to be positioned at different angles. The shade is protected by a distinctive curved metal grille, a detail that emphasises the industrial character of the design while also diffusing the light. The open structural frame and visible joints reflect Gismondi’s interest in creating lighting that is both technically efficient and visually dynamic.

Founded in 1960 by Ernesto Gismondi and Sergio Mazza, Artemide became one of Italy’s most influential lighting manufacturers, known for combining advanced engineering with innovative design. Throughout the 1970s-1990s the company collaborated with leading designers and architects, producing pieces that are now considered modern design classics.

The Sintesi lamp demonstrates this approach clearly - a piece that feels architectural, precise and slightly experimental, while remaining practical for everyday use.
