Set of Four Dining Chairs by Ib Kofod-Larsen for G-Plan (1960s)
Set of Four Dining Chairs attributed to Ib Kofod-Larsen for G-Plan
United Kingdom / Denmark influence, circa 1960s
A refined set of four dining chairs attributed to Ib Kofod-Larsen, produced by G-Plan as part of their Danish Range during the 1960s - a collection that reflected the growing influence of Scandinavian design on British furniture manufacturing.
The chairs are defined by their sculptural shaped backrests, where the flowing timber form provides both visual lightness and ergonomic support. The elegant rear legs and softened transitions between components demonstrate the Danish design language that G-Plan sought to capture during this period, drawing clear inspiration from contemporary Scandinavian makers and designers such as Finn Juhl.
The teak frames have been carefully cleaned and revived in our workshop. The seats are upholstered in black leather.
Comfortable, well-proportioned and increasingly difficult to find as a complete set.
Condition
Excellent vintage condition. Frames structurally sound with minor age related wear.

Ib Kofod-Larsen (Danish, 1921–2003) was one of the most accomplished furniture designers of the Danish modern movement. Trained as an architect at the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts in Copenhagen, he graduated in 1948 and quickly established a reputation for furniture that combined sculptural form with comfort and careful craftsmanship.
Kofod-Larsen worked with several important Scandinavian manufacturers including Faarup Møbelfabrik, Christensen & Larsen, and the Swedish company Selig. His designs are particularly known for their refined proportions, elegant timber frames and well-considered joinery. Chairs such as the Elizabeth Chair (also known as the U56), along with a range of lounge chairs, sideboards and dining furniture, demonstrate his ability to balance lightness with structural strength.
Although less widely known than some of his Danish contemporaries, Kofod-Larsen’s work is highly regarded among collectors for its understated elegance and strong architectural sensibility. His designs remain enduring examples of the clarity and craftsmanship that defined mid-century Scandinavian furniture.
