Mid-Century Danish Salad Servers
Helge Benzin for Astrid Wessels, Copenhagen, c.1960s

This elegant pair of Danish salad servers was designed by Helge Benzin and produced by Astrid Wessels in Copenhagen during the 1960s. They are a refined example of Scandinavian modern tableware, combining sculptural form with everyday practicality.

The long, slender teak handles taper beautifully to the hand, while the black melamine (often also described as nylon) heads are boldly shaped and highly functional. The unusual, asymmetric forms are typical of mid-century Danish design of the period, where utility and visual interest were carefully balanced.

Pieces by Helge Benzin are increasingly sought after for their quiet originality and strong material contrast, and Astrid Wessels was known for producing high-quality domestic objects that reflected the best of Danish modern design. These servers sit comfortably alongside classic mid-century table settings and also work well in more contemporary interiors.
