Whitefriars Glass was one of the most important names in British art glass during the 20th century. Though the company dates back to the 17th century, it was in the post-war decades, particularly under designer Geoffrey Baxter, that Whitefriars developed its most recognisable modern forms. Their mid-century production is known for its bold textures, vivid colours, and highly tactile surfaces.

The 'Knobbly' range was introduced in the late 1950s and remained in production through the early 1960s. Each piece was hand-blown and individually manipulated to achieve a unique organic surface, full of movement and light-catching ridges.

This bud vase in Gold is from that original series and carries pattern number 9845. The form is slender and vertical, designed to work beautifully on its own or as part of a grouping.
