2 original 1960s Papa Bear chairs by Hans Wegner - Rental only
Two original 1960s ‘Papa Bear’ armchairs by Danish designer Hans J. Wegner, available exclusively for short-term hire from our private collection. These are not for sale.
Generous wings, sculptural arms and deep seat cushions make the Papa Bear one of Wegner’s most recognisable lounge chairs – designed to feel like you’re being “hugged” by the chair. This matching pair are in a soft neutral upholstery with timber legs and characteristic wooden “paws” to the armrests, perfect for design-led shoots where you want a quietly iconic midcentury piece in the room.
Designer
Hans J. Wegner (1914–2007) was one of the leading figures of Danish modern design. Trained as a cabinetmaker, he approached every chair from the perspective of a maker – refining joints, proportions and comfort until only the essential structure remained. Wegner designed more than 500 chairs in his lifetime, including icons such as the Wishbone Chair, the Round Chair and the Papa Bear. His work is held in major museum collections worldwide and is still produced today.
